A number of schools have made the switch from face to face to online teaching with their Mandarin classes.
Our Chinese tutors have been teaching GCSE, YCT and general Mandarin to their pupils, utilising a variety of software, programmes and resources such as Google Classroom, Quizlet and Edpuzzle.
GCSE student Saffron said: “I think the online lessons are really helpful, as I’m not learning by myself all the time. It’s an advantage for my Mandarin learning as it allows me to expand and improve my Mandarin.”
Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni teacher Ceri Griffiths added: “Some of our pupils have been enjoying the cultural tasks set by the teachers, and have actually been doing paper cutting as part of this.”
On 13 May, we started our online Mandarin for Teachers courses.
The classes are delivered via Zoom, and give teachers who have already been studying the language an opportunity to keep learning. They will last six weeks in total - two weeks before half term and another four afterwards.
The classes are 1 hour 30 minutes each and held on Wednesday afternoons. The participants are from different schools, so it is also a nice opportunity to socialise with others!
The Mandarin for Beginners (Beginners 1) online courses will begin after half term.
